Young striker boots The Baker Boys out of the FA Trophy

Evesham United 3, Leek Town 2

LEEK Town were denied a place in the first round proper of the Buildbase FA Trophy by an impressive hat-trick from Evesham's young striker Harry Franklin.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Southern League club from Redditch United at the start of the year, struck in the 14th, 25th nd 75th minutes to give his side what looked an unassailable lead.

However, The Baker Boys stormed back with goals from Will Saxon (62 mins) and James Kirby (70 mins) to set up a grandstand finish.

Blues brought on record leading scorer Tim Grice for substitute Kirby in the 83rd minute, in a desperate bid to level the scores, but Evesham held out to enter the first round of the competition for only the second time in their history.

Leek chairman Jonathan Eeles tweeted after the game: "Giving the opposition a three-goal start was always going to be an uphill battle.

"Poor first half but much better in the second - but left ourselves too much to do."
