Uttoxeter go down fighting on way to third successive defeat

UTTOXETER have suffered their third defeat in a row after making such a promising start to October.

Elliott Millin's side hoisted themselves into third spot in Midland League Division One in the first week, by destroying league leaders Leicester Road's 100 per cent record with a 2-0 home victory.

But since then the bubble has burst with two league defeats and a disappointing exit from the FA Vase.

Saturday's reverse, following on a 2-1 league defeat at home to Stapenhill, has sent Uttoxeter crashing down to eighth in the table.

Uttoxeter looked dead and buried at 3-0 down to Kirby on the hour mark, but they then staged a dramatic comeback to cut the arrears to 3-2 through Alex Britton (61 mins) and Ollie Ritchie (84 mins) with his first goal of the season.

However, an equaliser eluded Uttoxeter with so little time left on the watch.

Kirby led 2-0 at half-time with a brace from Dan Barber (34', 45+4') and added their third goal through Levi Fry in the 58th minute.

This Saturday, Uttoxeter travel to face Brocton, the team immediately below them in the table, who have collected the same number of points (16).
