Uttoxeter course in pristine condition for return of horseracing

UTTOXETER Racecourse staff are getting ready up for a return of National Hunt action on Monday, July 6.

A delegation from the East Staffordshire course attended a recent fixture at Wolverhampton to observe how the venue operated without spectators on race days.

The Uttoxeter track is looking in pristine condition after some sterling maintenance work by ground staff.

Uttoxeter Racecourse Executive Director David MacDonald said: “We’re looking forward to racing behind closed doors on July 6, our first meeting [since lockdown] and we’ll allow the course to grow a bit before then to get more green on it – we’re in a good place.”

“The ground staff have had a real good opportunity to do work on the course that wouldn’t have happened in a normal year.

“The course has had deep maintenance over the last few weeks. It’s been fertilised and take-offs levelled off".

Uttoxeter hasn't staged a race meeting since the Midlands Grand National on Saturday, March 14.

There will a total of eight races on the card at Uttoxeter on July 6.
