ALTON Towers will be seen in a future showing of the popular BBC TV motoring series Top Gear.
The theme park was chosen to stage an electric car race involving show presenters Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris.
They to navigate a Honda e, a Mini Electric and a Vauxhall Corsa-e around a specially-constructed maze taking in the 550-acre grounds.
It was their first day back behind the wheel for the trio since the coronavirus pandemic halted production of hundreds of TV shows.
Top Gear executive producer Clare Pizey said: “We are so pleased to be able to start filming again, and a deserted theme park is a great place to start.
“If what we’ve shot so far is anything to go by, social distancing doesn’t get in the way of Paddy, Freddie and Chris having a brilliant time and causing mayhem along the way.”
The forthcoming series of Top Gear is being moved to BBC One and will make its debut on the channel later this year.
