Swifts swoop to tip Uttoxeter out of the Buildbase FA Vase

Uttoxeter Town 1, Stourport Swifts 3.

AFTER their recent run of good form in Midland League Division One, Uttoxeter finally met their match in the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday.

Uttoxeter's opponents from the MFL Premier Division - third in the table - issued a warning of what to expect should they gain promotion to the higher level at the end of the season.

That's not to say that the current Uttoxeter team is not capable of holding their own against tougher opposition, but on this occasion Stourport had the edge and finished worthy winners of this second qualifying round tie.

The loss of Kyle Esplin late in the first-half was a crippling blow to Uttoxeter after his match-winning performances this campaign.

The Swifts swooped to command a 2-0 half-time lead to leave Uttoxeter with a mountain to climb after the break.

Both goals were scored by Jack Watts, the first coming in the 20th minute and the second from the penalty spot after 37 minutes.

Uttoxeter's leading scorer James Curley reduced the deficit 20 minutes from time, but Bailey Fuller quickly restored Stourport's lead to confirm his side's presence in the first round proper.

Attendance: 120.

It's back to the bread-and-butter of league action for Uttoxeter this Saturday, when they welcome Stapenhill to Oldfields, kick off 3pm.

Rocester's home clash with Bewdley town in the Vase was postponed after a club member ttested positive for Covid-19. The tie will now be played on Saturday, October 17.
