THE Jennie Candlish-trained chaser Stop Talking was within a shout of winning the feature race on the card at Ayr Races today (Oct 26).
The seven-year-old, stabled at Basford Lodge, near Leek, finished second in the £4,289 Western House Hotel 2m 4f novices handicap chase on his debut over the bigger obstacles.
Sean Quinlan, winning jockey of last year's Scottish Grand National at the course, progressed through the 11-strong field to get within just over two lengths of the eventual winner, 5/2 favourite Empire Steel, on the race to the line.
It was an excellent performance by the mare Stop Talking after 412 days absence from racing action.
Place backers who follow Team Candlish were rewarded at generous odds of 22/1 by the four-times previous hurdles winner.
