NEW skipper Alex Mellor, pictured, steered Leek to a five-wicket victory away to Moorlands rivals Bagnall Norton in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Premier Division on Saturday.
Mellor smashed 76 runs off 93 balls, including 10 boundaries, after his side were set a revised target of 145 from 34 overs.
Bagnall Norton earlier totalled 180 all out from 38.5 overs in a rain-affected match.
Opener Josh Cartledge was the mainstay of the Bagnall Norton innings, with a knock of 87, which included eight 4s and three 6s.
Cartledge accumulated his score off 122 balls and was denied a century by the bowling of Joshua Hudson (3-14), departing at 172-8.
Only one other Bagnall Norton batsman, Daniel Gammon (13), got into double figures.
Mellor, enjoying his return to Leek, after chancing his arm at first-class cricket with Warwickshire, received excellent support from Isaac Foster (32), with their 98-run second wicket partnership taking the score from 14-1 to 112-2.
Leek, seventh in the table, are at home to Moddershall & Oulton this Saturday (1pm).
