Saxon the hero as Blues march on in Buildbase FA Trophy

Histon FC 1, Leek Town 2

BLUES booked their place in the third qualifying round of the Buildbase Trophy with a dramatic late winner from two-goal hero Will Saxon.

The summer signing from Nantwich Town struck just two minutes from time after levelling for his side in the 68th minute.

Histon had stunned their visitors by taking the lead through Danny Gould after just seven minutes.

There was no further score before half-time of a closely fought contest.

Blues at last got their breakthrough when Saxon equalised ahead of Neil Baker making two quick substitutions in determined bid to snatch the winner.

Charlie Walford replaced Matt Bell after 74 minutes and Tim Grice replaced James Kirby just 60 seconds later.

With the game edging nearer to a penalty shoot-out Baker then introduced Lewis Short for Port Vale loanee Dan Tricket-Smith in the 84th minute.

Two minutes from time Saxon swooped to put Blues through to the next round with a dramatic late winner.

Leek Town: Roberts, Ashman, Keenan, Grocott, Harrison, Chadwick, Trickett-Smith (Short 84'), Reeves, Kirby (Grice 75'), Bell (Walford 74'), Saxon. Subs: Walford, Short, Grice, Cortes-Smith.
