Stapenhill 1, Rocester 1
STAPENHILL had produced an excellent run of results recently and must have felt confident going into this fixture, bearing in mind that the Roman's had struggled with their own form following the enforced Covid lay-off.
It looked as though it was going to be 'more of the same' when, with only 15 minutes on the clock, Rocester conceded a penalty.
However, Devante Reittie was denied from the spot by Charlie Wood's superb save, the young keeper stretching to fingertip the ball onto the post and away to safety.
It was then Rocester's turn to threaten to open the scoring when Liam Robinson unleashed a powerful free kick that crashed against the bar with the Stapenhill keeper stranded.
However, Stapenhill took the lead just before half-time when the ball broke kindly from a tackle for Reittie to score.
Stapenhill powered forward in the second period but Rocester stood their ground and were rewarded for their stubborn resistance with an equaliser in the 67th minute.
Carl Allen’s chipped ball into the box was knocked down for recent new signing Alex Scott to score on his debut.
Rocester are at home to second-in-the-table Leicester Road this Saturday (3pm).
