Rocester enter lockdown now on seven games without a win

Rocester 1, Atherstone Town 5

THE Romans signed off with another defeat ahead of lockdown at home to Atherstone Town in Midland League Division One tonight (Nov 3).

Paul Wright's side have now gone seven games without a win, but it wasn't for want of trying against quality opposition that posed a constant threat on the break.

Liam Robinson forced a good save out of Atherstone keeper Carl O'Neill before the visitors took the lead after 11 minutes through

Josh Sedgley wasted a glorious chance to level when firing over from a good position and then O'Neill had to be at his best again to deny this time Jordan Dodd.

Rocester were rewarded for their stubborness in the 48th minute, when Elisio Francsico equlaised with a shot that took a deflection on its way into the Atherstone net.

However, the visitors responded quickly to surge into a 3-1 lead with goals in the 52nd and 54 minutes.

It should have been 4-1 in the 67th minute but Rocester's young stopper Charlie Wood produced a brilliant penalty save.

However, Wood was eventually beaten again twice as Atherstone continued to press and added further goals in the 82nd and 88th minutes.

Tonight's other results in MFL Division One: Heath Hayes 2, Cadbury Athletic 1; Hinckley AFC 1, GNP Sports 1.
