Powell's last-gasp leveller could prove priceless for the Potters

NICK Powell's last-gasp leveller for Stoke City at Reading could prove priceless for the Potters in their fight to avoid the drop to League One.

Powell struck with a header from a corner in the second minute of added time, to cancel out an early goal from Reading's Lucas Joao.

The point moves Stoke up to seventh-from-bottom on 43 points, ahead of their home clash with fellow relegation battlers Middlesbrough this Saturday.

Middlesbrough have a real fight on their hands to avoid the drop after losing 3-0 at home to Swansea yesterday.

Nathan Jones marked his return to Luton Town, after his disastrous spell in charge at Stoke, with a creditable 1-1 draw at home to promotion-chasing Preston.

But the point wasn't enough to stop Jones' side from hitting rock-bottom.

The Hatters replaced Barnsley at the foot of the table, as a result of the latter pulling off a surprise 1-0 win at QPR.

Charlton moved up onto Stoke's coat tails with a 1-0 success at relegation-haunted Hull - a result which casts the Humbersiders into even deeper water.
