Stoke City 0, Middlesbrough 2
NEIL Warnock marked his first game in charge of Middlesbrough with a 'smash-and-grab' raid at the bet365 Stadium.
This is the 71-year-old's 18th club in charge and he couldn't have got his revived career off to a better start, after quitting the hot seat at Cardiff City last November.
Stoke enjoyed the lion's share of possession only to concede goals from Ashley Fletcher (29 mins) and Marcus Tavernier (62 mins).
This result leaves the Potters in a desperate position in the Championship table, just one point above the drop zone.
To add to Stoke's woes they had Nick Powell - scorer of the late equaliser at Reading - sent off late on after collecting two yellow cards.
Stoke now have seven games remaining in which to get themselves out of trouble:
June: 30 Wigan - a.
July: 4 Barnsley - h; 9 Leeds United - a;12 Birmingham City - h; 15 Bristol City - a; 18 Brentford - h; 21 Notts Forest - a.
Today's other Championship results:-
Charlton Athletic 1, QPR 0; Preston North End 1, Cardiff City 3; Swansea City 0, Luton Town 1; Barnsley 0, Millwall 0; Derby County 2, Reading 1; Birmingham City 3, Hull City 3; Leeds United 3, Fulham 0; Wigan Athletic 2, Blackburn Rovers 0.
Leeds United replace West Bromwich Albion as new league leaders as a result of the Baggies 1-0 defeat at Brentford last night.
