Potters are in safe hands with Adam Davies between the posts

Stoke City 1, Brentford 0.

GOALKEEPER Adam Davies kept his second clean sheet in three debut appearances as Stoke City grabbed the points that secured Championship status for another season.

Barnsley's 2018-19 Player of the Year has had to wait a long time for his league debut, after joining Stoke last summer - and he's grabbed the opportunity to shine with both hands.

Davies' presence has instilled new-found confidence in a Potters defence so often been in disaray this season.

He produced another competent display between the posts, which dealt a cruel blow Brentford's automatic promotion hopes - the Bees having arrived at the bet365 Stadium on the back of eight consecutive wins.

Lee Gregory scored Stoke's match-winner just before the break, when he reacted quickly to force the ball home from close range, after Bees 'keeper David Raya palmed out Sam Clucas' long-range strike.

The result handed Leeds United the league title and quickly restored West Brom's bid for automatic promotion, following their surprise 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield the previous evening.

Third-placed Brentford head into Wednesday's final round of fixtures at home to bottom-of-the-table Barnsley, one point behind West Brom, who host QPR, while the Potters travel to Notts Forest with their relegation worries behind them.
