Police station cordoned off after visitor brought in suspected shell

LEEK police station was cordoned off yesterday afternoon (Oct 1) after someone brought in what was thought to be a historic military shell.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team were called in to deal with the incident.

The item had been found in a garage and brought to the station by a member of the public.

A cordon was set up as a precaution but the EOD confirmed that the item was safe.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "We remind people that if they find anything similar during house clearances then please leave it where it is and call the police".
