New sports grants to help meet additional costs of Covid-19

AS sporting activity begins again across the Moorlands following lockdown, the District Council is offering grants to help clubs, groups and athletes meet the additional costs of being Covid-secure.

Clubs and groups can apply for funding for measures necessary to ensure they are adhering to Government and sporting governing bodies guidelines.

Grants are also available for athletes whose personal circumstances have been affected by the pandemic and who would welcome support with memberships and fees to continue their previous activities.

Councillor Mark Deaville, Deputy Leader and cabinet member for Leisure and Sports, said: "Being active has so many benefits for our physical and mental health and we want to see sporting activity flourish again across the Moorlands as restrictions continue to ease.

"But we know that sports clubs and groups, and athletes, have been hit hard by the pandemic and, as they seek to start up again in a Covid-safe way, many of them are facing increased costs.

"That's why we're keen to offer our support through this grant scheme which is specifically aimed at helping them meet these additional costs.

"I'd encourage individuals and sporting organisations to have a look at our website for more information and to complete the online application form and let's get back to doing the things we value and enjoy!"
