More of the same today after last night's spectacular storm

MORE thunderstorms are forecast to hit North Staffordshire today (Wednesday, June 17). Last night's spectacular storm saw a month's rain fall a few hours in parts of the district.

Rail travel was disrupted when a landslide caused by the weather led to the closure of the West Coast main line between Crewe and Stafford.

People are being urged to stay away from rivers which have become a danger to life following the recent heavy rainfall.

Yesterday firefighters recued a teenage girl who had slipped and fallen into the swollen and fast-flowing River Trent at Stone.

The Met Office has issued another yellow storm weather warning today, from noon until 9pm.

A Met Office spokesman said: "These showers and thunderstorms will only slowly die out through the evening."
