Man in stand-off with police is released pending further enquiries

A MAN arrested after a five-hour stand-off with police in Leek at the weekend has been released from custody.

The 45-year-old was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and affray.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: " The 45-year-old, from Leek, has been released under investigation in relation to an arrest on suspicion of affray while investigations continue.

"There will be no further action in relation to the arrest on suspicion of arson."

Emergency services were called to an address in Argles Road, on the Haregate housing estate, shortly before noon on Sunday, following reports of a man acting in a distressed state.

At one stage firefighters and paramedics joined police officers at the scene.
