Kieran Rutter Legacy Fund golf day cancelled due to virus

THIS year's Kieran Rutter Legacy Fund Golf Day at Westwood Golf Club has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Keen young sportsman Kieran, from Leek, was involved in a fatal car crash on his way to work five years ago this month.

Parents Steve and Alicia set up a charity fund in their son's memory and the annual golf tournament makes a sizeable contribution

Dad Steve said: "Westwood Golf Club have kindly offered us a later date, but with social distancing set to remain for many months to come, we felt the only decision that was safe is to cancel this years event.

"We will announce the date for the 2021 event very soon and we will make it bigger and better than before".

The tournament was to have taken place on July 10 when the fund's latest £1,000 prize draw was to be made.

The draw has paid out just under £8,000 to lucky prize winners in the last five years.

Money raised by the Kieran Rutter Legacy Fund goes to local charities.
