Jumps racing returns to Uttoxeter course with nine contests

JUMPS racing behind closed doors returns to Uttoxeter this afternoon (Monday, Aug 17).

The nine-race card gets underway at 1.35, with a 2m 3f novice hurdle, and concludes at 5.40 with a 2m 6ft handicap chase.

Staffordshire Moorlands trainer Jennie Candlish sends out course winner For Jim for the latter race.

The seven-year-old, owned by Jennie, was soundly beaten on his last outing, at Bangor-on-Dee on July 29, but that was the gelding's first run for 252 days, so some improvement can be expected. Sean Quinlan gets the ride again.

The Basford Grange yard, near Leek, is seeking its first success over fences since the sport emerged from lockdown, but two of the Team Candlish flat horses have gone close to winning in recent days.

Leading National Hunt trainers including David Pipe, Simon Twiston-Davies and Emma Lavelle all have runners at the meeting.

Lavelle has entered likely winner Dagueneau from her Marlborough stables in the 2m 7f handicap hurdle at 3.10.
