PEOPLE in North Staffordshire will no longer have to travel miles to get a coronavirus test.
The Government has bowed to pressure to upgrade Stoke-on-Trent's testing centre at Stoke City FC's bet365 stadium.
The Department of Health and Social Care has agreed to change the location from a 'satellite' to a 'regional' testing centre from early next week.
The centre has previously only been available for certain key workers, such as frontline NHS and care staff, although the city council has been able to arrange tests for some others.
Stoke-on-Trent South Conservative MP Jack Brereton said: "It was not right for everyone else to travel up to 80 miles for a test, and I am delighted our requests to the Department of Health have been successful."
