A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Having received reports of nuisance vehicles in and around the Swainsley tunnel area Moorland officers have been patrolling the area and other local villages.

"One vehicle has been stopped and the driver arrested for suspected drink driving.

"Officers carried out patrols at Swainsley Tunnel in the Manifold Valley, between Wetton and Ecton, over at the weekend".

The 150m [164 yards] long tunnel was originally built for the Leek and Manifold Light Railway.

The spokesman added: "Local officers will continue to closely monitor the area to prevent further issues.

"Just to remind all, we will not stand for this behaviour and positive action will be taken.
