A POPULAR charity shop in a Staffordshire Moorlands town is getting ready to re-open at the start of next month.
The Donna Louise Trust branch in Derby Street, Leek, will be opening its doors again on Tuesday, July 2, following the easing of lockdown restrictions.
The Trust's charity's shops across North Staffordshire closed from Monday, March 23, following the coronavirus outbreak.
The charity's Longton superstore on The Strand, Longton, reopened yesterday (Wednesday, June 24) and Newcastle-under-Lyme branch, on Blackfriars Road, will be welcoming customers again from Wednesday, July 1.
In-store safety measures include: no changing rooms; returned items quarantined for 72 hours; card payments preferred; no donations accepted for at least the next few weeks.
Head of Donna Louise retail, Dominique Scott said: "We are following all Charity Retail Association guidelines. We've completed our risk assessments, hand sanitiser is available at the front door, there are hygiene screens at the till, and there are clear signs for social distancing.
"Our number one priority is the safety o our customers, volunteers and staff, followed by our desire to raise desperately needed income.
"Our shops were very well supported by the local communities before lockdown, and we really hope it will continue when we re-open.
"We hope people will come along and help fund the running of our hospice".
The Donna Louise Hospice, in Stoke-on-Trent, provides care and support services for children and young adults with shortened life expectancy or those who, due to illness or injury have a life-threatening or life-limiting condition.
Donna Louise caters for young people with a wide range of illnesses including metabolic, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy and heart conditions.
Recently, Donna Louise, faced with finding £3.5 million a year, has struggled to raise enough money to continue to funding the essential services it provides to 240 families of children with life-limiting conditions.
As a result the charity recently merged with local charity Douglas Macmillan (Dougie Mac) to ensure that all the clinical services continue as normal – and families will see no change to the way care is delivered.
All clinical staff continue to work in the same roles at Donna Louise, but they are now employees of Dougie Mac.
