Defeats for Middlesbrough and Hull a boost for troubled Stoke

STOKE City's fight to retain Championship status has been helped a little by two teams below them in the table losing today (July 12).

Middlesbrough (22nd) were beaten 1-0 at home by QPR, while Hull City (21st) suffered a 4-2 defeat away to title challengers West Bromwich Albion.

The Potters, who sit just two points clear of the relegation zone, in 18th position, face a tough task away to league leaders Leeds United this Thursday (July 23).

Stoke have just five games remaining in which play themselves out of trouble and avoid the drop down to League One.
