THE Staffordshire Moorlands is the setting for two big clashes in the North Staffs and South Cheshire Cricket League Premier Division tomorrow (Aug 15).
League leaders Cheadle play host to Longton at Tean Road, who are seven points below them in third spot, while Leek welcome defending champions Porthill Park to Highfield.
Cheadle are without unavailable skipper Craig Smith as they bid to overcome one of the surprise teams of the season and in doing so maintain their impressive 100 per cent record.
Longton have won their last three starts, after opening their campaign with a defeat at home to Porthill, and trounced visitors Whitmore by nine wickets last weekend.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Andy Coxon will captain Cheadle in Smith's absence.
Leek know they will have to be at their best to beat Porthill, whose one defeat from their four starts came in a close affair at Cheadle, where their opponents gained a one-wicket verdict in a dramatic finish.
New Leek skipper Alex Mellor, who has returned to Highfield after a spell with Warwickshire, saw his side suffer their first defeat of the 2020 campaign at previously winless Meakins last weekend.
Eleswhere, Ashcombe Park play host to newly-promoted Division One runners-up Burslem, looking to return to winning form after their narrow two-wicket defeat a Porthill, whilst the other top-flight newcomers, Division One champions Bagnall Norton, welcome Moddershall & Oulton, and Checkley receive Whitmore.
