Cricket: Leek bid to maintain their promising start to season

A TRIP to Burslem awaits Leek in the North Staffs and South Cheshire Cricket League tomorrow (Saturday, August 22).

Leek have made a promising start to the season under new skipper Alex Mellor.

Mellor has returned to his home town club after a spell with Warwickshire.

Burslem secured a dramatic victory by one run at Ashcombe Park last weekend, so last year's Division One runners-up are primed to present Leek with a real test.

Ashcombe travel Longton, who will be seeking to register a fifth successive win, after ending Cheadle's four-match winning streak with a 16-run verdict.

The win lifted Longton to joint top spot with Cheadle who suffered a late batting collapse after looking all set for victory.

Cheadle will be keen to quickly atone for their slip-up on their visit to Whitmore and will have skipper Craig Smith, pictured, back at the helm.

Checkley, beaten by a single run by Whitmore last weekend, travel to Moddershall & Oulton, while Division One champions Bagnall Norton are at Meakins.
