Covid-19: Face coverings must be worn on public transport

IT is mandatory from today (June 15) for all passengers boarding public transport in England to wear face coverings, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Rob Hughes, operations director at First Potteries, said: "I am asking all our customers who are planning to make a journey by bus to please comply with this practical safety measure, and help our drivers undertake their role in getting people to their destinations safely without causing any conflict in trying to disregard the new rule.

"A guide on how you can make a mask can be found on our website."

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps warned at a Downing Street press conference: "You can be refused travel

if you don't comply and could be fined.

"Alongside transport operators, this will be enforced by the British Transport Police if necessary.

"But I expect the vast majority of people won't need to be forced into this."
