Coronavirus pandemic wipes out 2020 Cheadle Carnival

THIS year's Cheadle Carnival (July 3-5) and the town's annual Soapbox Derby (September 6) have fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic. With 'large gathering' events likely to be ruled out for some time, as part of the current lockdown measures, both events have been postponed until next year A Carnival spokesperson said: "With the current situation and social distancing to be place for some time we don't see we could go ahead. "All the acts we have booked have already confirmed to come to Carnival 2021. "We hope people understand this is not an easy decision to make. However, we feel it is the best in these times" This year's carnival was to be on a VE [Victory in Europe] Day theme to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
