RESIDENTS in a Staffordshire town are being called on to stick to the Covid-19 rules and get tested immediately if they have symptoms to help prevent the spread of infection in the community.
Although there is currently no significant concern in Burton-on-Trent or plans for any lockdown measures there have been a number of single cases and two family-related clusters. There have been 35 positive cases reported in and around the Anglesey and Shobnall areas since lockdown eased on July 4.
Dr Richard Harling, Staffordshire County Council’s Director of Health and Care, said:
"While there are no serious concern about these local outbreaks so far, we want to do everything we can to nip this in the bud by reminding people of the best advice to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.
If you do have symptoms, please don’t delay in having a test. These can quickly be booked online and will help you protect your family, your friends and your community from Covid-19.”
The guidance is to:
* Wash your hands regularly
* Follow social distancing advice
* Self-isolate for seven days and book a test if you have symptoms
* Self-isolate for 14 days if you have been contacted by the NHS Test & Trace Service and told you have been in close contact with someone who has test positive
The county council is now working with East Staffordshire Borough Council and community and faith leaders to remind residents and local shops and business to follow the guidance.
Alan White, Staffordshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing, added : "As a county council. we are doing everything we can to act swiftly to contain any outbreaks and by acting now we can work together to help prevent the further spread of infection.
"We know that people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds also face a higher risk from Covid-19 so it is important as ever not to let our guard down.”
