Cops trap speeding motorist after villagers demand action

POLICE are warning drivers not to take advantage of quieter roads during the coronavirus lockdown by excess speeding. A motorist has been caught travelling at 57mph in a 40mph zone on a country road in the Staffordshire Moorlands. The offender was stopped by the Force's dedicated Road Policing Unit (RPU) while they were staging a speed enforcement operation on the A53 Buxton Road, at Blackshaw Moor near Leek, after local residents raised concerns about public safety. A Staffordshire Police spokesman urged motorists: "Please take care on the roads as we try to reduce collisions."
