NEWLY-PROMOTED Burslem burst onto the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Premier Division scene with big score at Checkley.
They stunned their hosts by rattling up 228-5 off 27 overs, with two players making half-centuries - Ashley Shaw (70) and Tom Bason (60).
Unfortunately, it rained down on Burslem's parade and the match was abandoned with Checkley on 18-2 in reply off three overs.
Checkley collected eight points and Burslem 12 from the new play format.
Rain spoilt the league's delayed start to the 2020 season brought about by
the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
Cheadle were thankful for a face-saving 42 runs from all-rounder Matt Goodwin in their home clash with Moddershall Oulton.
Goodwin came to his side's rescue after the high order batsmen struggled to put runs on the board.
The Bassetts ran up 133-9 off 27 overs to which Moddershall responded with 79-6 off 19.1 overs.
Cheadle were declared winners by 54 runs to collect 15pts and Moddershall Oulton were awarded 7.
In Division One, Blythe's fixture at Elworth was abandoned after the visitors made 94-8 off 25 overs. Elworth 7pts, Blythe 5.
Oakamoor marked their promotion to Division One with a victory by 90 runs against visitors Kidsgrove.
The hosts made 143-5 off 27 overs to pocket 15pts. Kidsgrove were 53-2 off 14 overs and picked up three.
Caverswall lost by six wickets away to Rode Park & Lawton after making 117-4 off 23 overs. Under the new faster scoring format the home side were declared winners after making 60-4 off 9.2 overs.
