THERE is a large police presence at the scene of an incident on the Haregate housing estate in Leek.
Unarmed officers were initially despatched to the Argles Road/Westminster Road area shortly before mid-day, and were later joined firefighters and paramedics.
Armed units then arrived to assist at what onlookers reported to be what looked a siege involving a male at a property in Argles Road
Roads around the incident have been closed to traffic by police.
A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: "Our Leek residents will be aware of the incident on Argles Road.
"We are in the process of dealing with a person in distress, we do not believe there is any risk to wider community.
"We politely ask people to stay away from the area to prevent further distress being caused".
Police have now arrested a man after a stand-off lasting five hours.
