CHECKLEY got their first win on the board for the season away to Stone SP in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League Premier Division.
The visitors edged a close encounter by eight runs after setting Stone a target of 163 for victory.
Stone were dismissed for 154 in the 40th over, when Adam Pursell was run out by Matthew Turner, as the former made a desperate bid for runs, with just two balls of the match remaining.
Sam Butters and John Cheadle had got the Stone innings off to a solid start by putting together 52 runs for the first wicket.
However, Stone then slumped to 85-5 and eventually conceded to the accuracy of spinner Richard Williams (4-16) and seamer Richard Cooper (3-25).
Checkley were earlier indebted to Brendan Lovatt (29) and Jacob Ward (28) for generous contributions to their side's total of 162 all out.
BLYTHE'S hopes of a quick return to the top flight were stalled by a heavy eight-wicket defeat at home to Eccleshall in Division One.
The damage was done by quick-fire century from Myles Coughlan, who punished the Blythe bowling attack with an unbeaten 107 off just 87 balls.
Coughlan struck 11 fours and four sixes at will around the Cresswell Lane ground, as Eccleshall ran up 158-2, passing their hosts total of 157-7 off 40 overs with ease.
Skipper Chris Plant (40) and Chris Dyer (35) had earlier led the run scoring for Blythe.
OAKAMOOR, newly-promoted as Division Three champions at the end of last season, lost by four wickets away to Norton in Hales.
The visitors had Kris Heathcote (30) and Adam Keates (63no) to thank for getting their score to 137-8 in the allocated 40-overs.
Norton in Hales responded with 141-6 in 34.3 overs led by Alex Thorley (51no) and Kashif Ali Moon (23no), with James Smith returning 4-14 off his eight overs.
The win installed Norton in Hales as Division Two joint leaders with Porthill Park 2nds.
